Alright, here we are everybody. A tribute to the first ever habits I lived by…for 10 years. Funny isn’t it? Something so repetitive, and seemingly meaningless after so long and it is the reason I’m the way I am.
The Surface
You are in charge of you. A simple statement, but has such a deep influence. You could go the literal way where you decide what food you want to eat and as you grow up you decide where you want to go and what you want to do, blah blah blah. But if you go ahead a dig a little but under the surface this could mean so much more. You aren’t just in charge of your physical life, you are in charge of your emotional life.
The Catacombs
Okay, I know this sounds weird, and you’ve heard it before, but there is a funny word called mindset. The way I see it, is the way someone “sets” there “mind” before performing a certain task. Let me try and use an example we’ve all experienced, notice when you go to the store for groceries you always feel bugged or possibly like you are using all your money on stuff you apparently need to survive or something. Pfft. But then you go to the store for some personal item you splurged on buying because it could “change your life forever”. In one instance your bored and feeling like your losing something, while the other you feel like your getting something. That is your mindset before during and after shopping. Take a step back and realize what you are doing is the exact same thing. Giving money to a business then to receive the goods they provide.
Now it may seem we are moving into the world of being materialistic. Only caring about the physical item in front of you but remember we are digging deeper. Behind every physical action is an emotional stimulus causing said action. So one small thing you could do is create the mindset that you have shopping for yourself, while shopping for groceries. Get excited, be grateful, or at least put things into perspective and even them out. Sure go the physical route, your mindset will change anyways.
I know this doesn’t have to do with everyone’s everyday life but it’s something I feel like happens often to most people. But that small difference can change how someone’s day proceeds to go. Don’t take what you have for granted. Your mind is beautiful it controls the actions by which your body follows. So my challenge to you is to think more about your mind while doing any physical action. This can lead to your efficiency of thinking BEFORE you act. Something you get told to do but don’t really understand. Just take a minute and be understanding towards yourself.
Now say, someone in your family passes away. You could look at it and say “God doesn’t care about me and took away someone I loved” the negative route, or you could say “God needed them, and I’m glad they are with him now” the positive route. Whatever one you take is up to you, but you indeed have the ability to choose exactly how you react. In any situation you could choose the negative or positive reaction. But the question is what will help you discern between choices and understand which one will bring you success, joy and what one would bring you despair, failure. Well…
The Depths
Now let’s take one more step into this your in charge of you. So what does the deep inside of this look like, well the spiritual control. This is the center of all of you. Your spiritual connection to the Holy Ghost, can and does change who you are and what you feel/do. A spiritual revelation seeps into your mind, a phrase, a whisper, whatever it may be, this will lead you to feel an emotion. Maybe it will be a emotion directly. Nonetheless it leads this emotion to then execute an action.
Step by step this routine rolls out over and over again. Consistently. The Holy Ghost is all knowing and while we are in charge of our physical actions and decisions, emotional feelings and mindsets, we are as good as blind if we don’t have our own spirituality to guide us. This spirituality is built through a relationship with the Holy Ghost. Yes we see through our eyes with emotions and physical actions over our spiritual ones but you’ll notice the best outcomes and most powerful emotions are driven from our spiritual feelings. Our emotions are expanded by the times of hundreds when we focus on our spirituality. This doesn’t mean sit in silence in meditate. But this is very similar to our emotional growth.
When growing our spirituality we must listen and when it happens track down it’s origins. Find out when and why it comes, pay attention when it happens, when he speaks. Just as we continue to listen we continue to feel it better. And just as we thought before we acted, now we can feel the spirit before we think. It can become familiar to us, and when we become powerful enough we will be able to control it, tap into the Holy Ghost when we need him, feel the still small voice like a yell in our minds. The better we seek after it the better we become it.
3. The WAY it is executed—The Surface—Physical Control: learning how to walk, choosing to run, choosing to jump, choosing to lift up your arm, make food, give kisses.
2. How it is then interpreted—The Catacombs—Emotional Control: being able to control mindset, determine how you react to things, why exactly you do physically move.
1. Where it ACTUALLY starts—The Depths—Spiritual Control: not easily accessible or used as often this gives the ability to see clearly. This will guide you through life as you were meant to be lead, keep you safe, give you meaning, and breed success through your life. The Holy Ghost.
This is proof we can use the Holy Ghost and the spirit to help discern between 2 choices, that the most important thing we can do in this gospel and life is use our actions to convey the gospel we so dearly hold close to our hearts. A strong spirit has a lot of action towards the revelation he receives from the Holy Ghost.
